Landscape Overhaul & French Drain Installation: Transforming a Water-Damaged Property

This not only enhanced the landscape’s visual appeal but also served a functional purpose in protecting the drainage system from debris. With all elements in place, we successfully restored the property’s beauty while providing a robust drainage solution to prevent future water damage.

Our team recently completed a comprehensive landscape overhaul for a homeowner struggling with severe water damage caused by poor drainage. Surface water was flowing directly into the foundation, resulting in basement flooding and structural concerns. To address these issues, we implemented a French drain installation as part of a larger landscaping project to protect the home and enhance the property’s overall appearance.

French Drain Installation to Prevent Water Damage

The first step was to assess the extent of water damage and determine the most effective drainage solution. We began by removing overgrown shrubs that were obstructing the landscape and contributing to poor water flow. We carefully graded the ground surface away from the home to naturally divert surface water from the foundation.

To further protect the property, we installed a French drain approximately 10 feet away from the home. We strategically placed the drain and connected it to a corrugated pipe that channels water underground to the rear of the property. To prevent soil erosion and add visual appeal, we covered the area near the foundation with decorative river rock. This non-permeable material creates a water-resistant barrier that protects the soil while giving the home’s exterior a polished look.

Enhancing the Property’s Curb Appeal

Once the drainage system was in place, we turned our attention to aesthetics. We installed permeable fabric over the French drain and concealed the area with decorative river rock, creating a polished and professional look that complements the home’s exterior. We also addressed the eye sores around the property, making them look neat and visually pleasing.

Additionally, we trimmed a large pine tree that was overshadowing the lawn area. We power-raked the lawn to achieve a smooth finish and prepare it for new grass seed. Then, we laid down straw erosion blankets and applied a straw tackifier agent over the newly seeded areas to ensure proper germination and control erosion.

Final Touches & Project Completion

We wrapped up the project by installing river rock along the perimeter of the home and over the drain area. This not only enhanced the landscape’s visual appeal but also served a functional purpose in protecting the drainage system from debris. With all elements in place, we successfully restored the property’s beauty while providing a robust drainage solution to prevent future water damage.
